World Book Day on Thursday

It's World Book Day on Thursday.

On Thursday 2nd March we will be celebrating World Book Day here at Oakfield Primary Academy. To celebrate World Book Day this year we will be exploring the children’s book ‘How to Live Forever’ by Colin Thompson. This picture book is full of beautiful illustrations. There is enough text to encourage discussion and wonderful pictures throughout the book to engage the children into exciting and creative discussions. Peter and his family live among the Quinces in the cookery section of a mystical library, and at night, when the library comes to life, Peter ventures out of his home to find a missing volume: How To Live Forever. He journeys through the different books on the shelves, searching for the answer to eternal life.

Children from Reception through to Year 6 will enjoy, read and learn through various activities based on this book. With the whole school investigating one story, every child can share and discuss their experiences of it. We will be creating a whole school display of the wonderful work that children from all year groups will have produced.

Dressing Up

Once again, this year we will be inviting children to dress up for World Book Day: Thursday 2nd March. In keeping with the themes of ‘How To Live Forever’, children can dress up as any character from their favourite story book that they would like to bring to life. I apologise for the limited time frame and hope that this gives you all enough scope to find a suitable outfit.

Book Tokens

The school will also be issuing book tokens. Please keep an eye out for these as they can be redeemed in most book stores.

Many Thanks,
Mr David Ware Literacy Leader
