Dartford Information
Dartford is the principal market town in the Borough of Dartford, Kent. The town is situated on the border of Kent and is located south-east of Central London with quick links into the City. Dartford town centre lies in a valley, through which the River Darent flows. When the Romans engineered the Dover to London road it was necessary to cross the River Darent by ford, giving the settlement its name.
Dartford became a market town in medieval times and has a long history of religious, industrial and cultural importance. Scenic locations include the 26-acre Central Park, a museum, a swimming pool and leisure centre and theatre offering concerts, plays, opera, ballet, musicals and pantomime.
Dartford is twinned with several other towns and cities including Hanau in Germany and Gravelines in France.
