Term 6

For our final term, our topic will be Gateways to the World. This is a particularly interesting topic that will enrich our children's understanding of Geography but looking at other cultures, world wide destinations and in particular transport. To support our work on transport we will be visiting Duxford Air Museum on 20th June 2016. We will also be inviting parents to join us for our 'exit point' at the end of term - more details will be sent out nearer the time.

During Term 6 we have various other events including the Queen's birthday celebration on 9th June. The whole school are also taking part in History Week commencing 27th June. As part of this, Year 3 children will be visiting Leed's castle on Thursday 30th June, as well as taking part in many other interesting activities.

Term 5

This term children will be travelling even further back in time to the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, where they will be learning all about dinosaurs and fossils as part of 'Footprints from the Past'. Children will get to become an archaeologist for the day, investigate different types of rock as well as experiment with different forms of art. This term will also provide children with lots of opportunities to further their science understanding as we conduct various science experiments each week.

Term 4

Our topic in Term 4 will be 'Scavengers and Settlers' where will be looking at the Stone, Bronze and Iron age. Although this short term does not have a trip, we are inviting parents to join us in school for an exciting cave painting activity on Thursday 26th February, more details on this to follow.

Term 3

Now into Term 3, we will be learning all about animals and plants in our new topic Land, Sea and Sky. On the first day back both children and adults were very lucky to meet a range of exotic animals including a bearded dragon, racoon, pythons (both small and large!), skunk, crocodile and meerkat! Most terrifying of all though was the tarantula (which I bravely held!). We will also be going on our first trip of the year to Colchester Zoo (Monday 1st January) and would love for any parent helpers to come and join us! Please return the slips and payment as soon as possible so that the trip can go ahead.

Term 2

In term 2 we will be looking at two different units. Firstly, Digital Gamers where children will learn about computer programming as well as writing algorithms. Children will be engaged through a very exciting range of Pokemon activities. Our second topic will be Material World. Children will learn about different materials; their states (solid, liquid and gas) and forces, including magnets. Although we do not have a trip for this term, we will be inviting Andrew Berry in to enhance the children's understanding of Science through interactive workshops.

Term 1

In term 1 our topic focussed on the Olympic Games, where children have been looking at the history of the Olympics as well as prepare for our very own Oakfield Olympics. This will be held at Oakfield on Friday 23rd October at 2pm. Parents of Year 3 children will be invited.
