Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Oakfield Primary Academy is an IQM Flagship School (2021) who are committed to Inclusion and to the development of cultures, policies and practices that include all learners. In line with our Trust values of respect, responsibility and equality, we aim to engender a sense of community and belonging, and to develop an environment where all children are equally valued and can flourish and feel safe.

 

It is our policy to meet the needs of children who experience barriers to their learning, which may relate to sensory or physical impairment, learning difficulties or emotional or social development, or may relate to factors in their environment, including the learning environment that they experience in school.

 

We recognise that pupils learn at different rates and that there are many factors affecting achievement, including ability, emotional state, age and maturity. We believe that many pupils, at some time in their school career, may experience difficulties which affect their learning, and we recognise that these may be long or short term. We aim to identify these needs as they arise and provide teaching and learning contexts which enable every child to achieve to his or her full potential.

 

The Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion, Miss Julia McCloskey is the school SENCo and Miss Keeleigh Jackson, currently on maternity leave, is the EYFS SENCo. The Inclusion team also comprises of Ms Karen Thomas (Assistant Headteacher for Mental Health & Wellbeing and SRP lead), Miss Melanie King (SRP lead teacher) Ms Samantha Murray (Nurture teacher), Mrs Rachel Brooker (Trust Speech and Language Therapist), Mrs Donna Stevens (Speech and Language assistant), Mrs Geraldine Dixon (Therapeutic play practitioner) and Mrs Clare Kent (Family Liaison Officer).
