Our Philosophy

The Image of the Child

Children are viewed as competent, curious, natural researchers who are full of knowledge and are interested in connecting with the world around them. We help the children to develop their skills and interests through quality interactions, with the children leading their own learning.

The Importance of the Environment

Through the conscious use of space, colour, display, and nature the environment plays a crucial role in developing children’s skills, thinking, problem solving and ability to work collaboratively. Areas are designed to encourage independence, investigations, exploration and discovery.

The Role of Families

Parents and carers are a child’s first teacher. We invite parents and carers to take active roles in contributing to the process of discovery and learning both inside and out of school. Relationships are based on co-operation and mutual respect for our combined roles in nurturing the child.

The Unique Child

Young children learn best ‘in the moment’ when they are truly excited and engaged so we are child led in almost everything that we do, bringing the ‘teaching’ to the children. This way we ensure that each child’s learning is specified to their individual needs and abilities.

Documentation

We record the children’s new learning and ‘wow moments’ through observations, noting the teaching that has taken place to move the children onto their individual next steps. We invite parents to share children’s learning that has taken place at home so that we can celebrate all of the children’s achievements. We are all in this together!

Children are Connected

A child is a member of a family and a community. We foster building upon community relationships and involvement creating a sense of belonging in the world and an awareness of their place in the community. We share photographs from home and learn about celebrations that may be happening within our families or community.

"Development can only take place when children are actively involved, when they are occupied with a high, non-stop degree of concentration, when they are interested, when they give themselves completely, when they use all their abilities to invent and make new things and when this gives them a high degree of satisfaction and pleasure."
